- Long weekend!
- Finally receiving a book ordered from Amazon over half a year ago in the mail.
- The two cute, $5 dollar t-shirts Troy bought me today. One has robots on it and the other female comic book characters.
- Our backyard garden is filling in, slowly but surely.
- The upcoming vacation. We’re going up north to the cottage to spend a week there. Only 5 more days to go!
I really like plants. I love planting them in the ground and watch them grow. When I’m out of plants to plant, I feel sad. It’s like I’ve lost a life purpose, which is to bring new lives into the garden. Today was the first day of my having no plants to put in the ground. I was sad. So I just moved one plant from one spot to another spot a few inches away. It made me feel better. I don’t know why, but it did. I’m crazy that way.
The biggest hit in our household today is a site called lamebook.com. It’s like STFU, Parents, but not limited to parental Facebook updates. I felt dumb after reading a couple of pages and just couldn’t read any more but Troy just read on and on and on. I don’t know how he did that. But there’s a lot of crazy, hilarious, stupid, TMI-esque stuff there. What I don’t understand is some people really friended other people on Facebook with whom they’re really not in friendly terms. Seriously, why?
Crazy, self-important updates are not limited to Facebook. They are all over Twitter, too. At Tweeting Too Hard, you can give self-important tweets the recognition they deserve. Give the self-important people the (sarcastic) pat on the back that they so badly need! Be sure to check out the All-Time Top for the cream of the crop tweets.
I came across Tweeting Too Hard through a PC World article, 40 Fantastic Time-Wasting Web Sites. If after going through the above sites you still have some time to kill, go to the article for 39 more sites.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day. I don’t like sunny days.
What story should I tell you today? I don’t know. Um, I made pancakes for lunch today. Cheese pancakes. They were really good pancakes. Best I’ve ever made, even. But I couldn’t really taste the cheese. I think the syrup I put on them might have overpowered the cheese. It wasn’t even real maple syrup. Real maple syrup would over-overpowered the cheese for sure. If you’ve had real maple syrup, you would know how sweet it is. Crazy sweet! That’s why we prefer Aunt Jemima syrup to real maple syrup. We have a bottle of real maple syrup just sitting around doing nothing in the fridge and it’s been there for probably two years! We’ve been offering it to friends and family members, but so far, no takers.
I came across a bunch of lists people put together today. Some are silly, some are not, some others are actually quite scientific. Let’s start from the most scientific one. 10 Recent Scientifically Solved Mysteries. You might have read this list already since it’s from April of this year but it’s new to me and it’s quite interesting. You don’t have to be a science geek to enjoy this list.
Next, not really a list, but still somewhat scientific: find out if your cat is right- or left-handed. It kind of makes me wish I had a cat so I could conduct this experiment.
And another not-quite-a-list. It’s a book blog called Awful Library Books, which is “a collection of public library holdings that [the bloggers] find amusing and maybe questionable for public libraries trying to maintain a current and relevant collection.” The books are mostly (if not all) what you’d call vintage and can be quite politically-incorrect by today’s standards.
Speaking of vintage, check out this list of 15 Creepiest Vintage Ads Of All Time. It’ll make you wonder who made the decisions for these ads to go to print. Seriously. And while we’re at it, see also 10 Strangest Japanese Toys. Don’t let the first one freak you out. It does get better!
Oh, look, Japanese bird cooking spaghetti!
And that’s all for today.
I didn’t sleep well last night. Probably because I had some pretty strong cups of tea at supper and a big bowl of coffee ice cream a couple of hours before bed. Now I’m not sure if there’s caffeine in the coffee ice cream. Somehow I doubt there is. And I drank the tea like eight hours before bedtime. So I don’t know. I guess my brain just wouldn’t shut down. It must’ve taken me a couple of hours to fall asleep and then I was just dozing on and off through the night. All in all, it wasn’t a very restful sleep, and now I’m just sleepy. Don’t really feel like cooking proper dinner. I wonder if Troy would mind having pancakes for dinner.
Speaking of pancakes, I have finally found a pancake recipe that yields pancakes with the kind of consistency I like: light and fluffy. The recipe is called The Ultimate Pancake Recipe and they’re not kidding! I was skeptical at first but after experiencing some disappointments over the other pancake recipes, I thought I’d give it a shot, and I’m glad I did. Though next time I’m going to have to mix the baking powder and the flour better because I bit a piece of pancake with a big lump of baking powder in it and it tasted pretty nasty!
I haven’t posted a quiz here in ages so here’s one: Million Dollar Questions. How many of these million dollar questions from the show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? can you answer correctly? I only got 2 out of 12. Yeah, I suck. But I’m sure I would’ve done better had I had the phone a friend option. Har har. Though it would really depend on how many of these questions Troy can answer correctly since he’d be the only one I could call. Ah, to win a million dollars…
Want to do another quiz? Here’s another good one from the same source: An 80’s Cartoon Quiz. I’ve never been a big fan of cartoons, not even when I was a child, so I impressed myself by scoring 5 out of 15. Heh. I know for sure how many robot lions it took to form a Voltron, but then again, who doesn’t?
Yay, I’m finishing the post and it’s only a little after 4 PM! I can go to bed early tonight if I want to! Sweet Jebus!
The other night I watched the news on TV and heard about the battle against Eurasian watermilfoil that’s been going on in Puslinch Lake. Anyway, between 2006 and 2008, they released thousands of milfoil-eating weevils into the lake and apparently the weevils have been doing their job and the milfoil in the lake has dramatically decreased. But that’s not really the part that I find fascinating. What’s so fascinating is, they mentioned in the news that the weevil costs $1000 EACH! I thought I heard it wrong but Troy confirmed that that was what they said. Crazy, eh? $1000 for one, lousy, little weevil! Anyone want to start a weevil farm with me?
So what’s your plan for the weekend? We’re going to Waterloo tomorrow to see the new Harry Potter movie and maybe another movie at my favourite indie cinema. Just thinking about going to Waterloo always makes me feel giddy with anticipation. It’s Waterloo! It’s my first Canadian hometown! It’s where we got married! I guess my love affair with Waterloo is not over yet. Sorry, Stratford. I like you, but I love Waterloo.
There are so many movies I’d like to see at the indie cinema in Waterloo. I’d like to see Moon, Away We Go, Goodbye Solo, (500) Days of Summer, um, I guess that’s all for now. But there are always movies I’d like to see there. We used to have a membership card that allowed us to buy a ticket for only $7! It’s a pretty good deal. I miss living 15 minutes away from it.
Well, it’s almost tomorrow. I did search for links to post but didn’t really find anything worth sharing so this will have to do it. Have a good weekend and see you on Monday!
