On Web Design & Photography

I never thought it would come to this but I’m getting tired of web design. After finishing all the projects I’m currently working on, I’m taking a break to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life. It’s just that designing has felt more like a chore than a love to me lately. I don’t know if I want to do it anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoy designing for myself. I don’t always feel like designing, but when I do, I always enjoy it. I guess I just don’t enjoy doing it commercially.

So, after I’m done with all the projects, I’m going to bring Book of Styles back to life, but not in a new form as promised. It will be pretty much like the old form. Only problem is, I left all the Shades of Grey templates in my computer back in Indonesia. If you happen to have the whole templates from the Shades of Grey series, I’d really appreciate it if you could email them to me (firda at wannabegirl dot org) so I could put them all back up and everyone could take advantage of them.

In case you’re wondering, there is something else that currently occupies my heart more than web design does (other than my husband, of course). It’s photography. I’ve fallen in love with photography. Call me unfaithful to web design if you will, but photography is so much more rewarding. It gives instant gratification, or almost instant gratification in case of film cameras. I got out of bed at 6:30 in the morning last Sunday and went out to take pictures. It was the most satisfying experience. Morning light makes everything look so much better. Try to do it some time. You won’t regret it!

  1. Hi Firda,
Your entry reminded me of how I decided to not go for a computer graphics career after I graduated art school. I love the whole design process, just not the commercial side of it. I still try to take pictures whenever possible. That’s one thing that I really enjoys too. Whatever you decide, do what makes sense to you and makes you happy. =)

  2. I was wondering what Book of Styles is? I have been a fan of your weblog for a couple weeks, and I was just curious.
