To Paint or Not to Paint

So these are pictures of our little house. It’s still sporting the current owners’ decorating style, which is not necessarily similar to mine. Mine would be crazier and less traditional. That said, I’d just like to ask for your opinions. If it was your house, would you paint the door and the window trims and the baseboard white? I want to because I think it would refresh and update the look but I’m a little afraid because it’s something that you can’t really undo. Some people, including Troy, like the wood, but not me. I’m not planning on painting over the stairs and the kitchen cupboards, though. They can stay the way they are. What do you think?

I’m so excited about all the storage space in the kitchen and the bathroom. I love storage. And I can’t wait to starting my own garden in the backyard and to making the front yard look less boring. And to washing that filthy back wall by the deck. Oh yes, that wall could definitely use some good power-washing. And/or painting. Though exterior painting means regular maintenance, which we’re not too crazy about, so maybe not.

So I lied a little in my last entry about not being excited about the house any more. I sure still am! πŸ™‚

  1. I’ve seen this set on your Facebook sometimes ago. I was expecting a new set… by the way, the set looks like they’re professionally taken.

  2. Re painting of teh wood around the windows and the baseboard – it looks okay as is in most of the rooms but with the woodpanelling in the kitchen cupboards – omgawd wood-overkill much???? i think i would go psycho and paint it all! (and propbably regret it later…).
Hmm – good to see i will have a nice bedroom when i come to stay….mwahahaahaaa!

  3. Well, Troy likes his wood so I’d let him have the kitchen cupboards and the stairs and all the old doors upstairs. If it were up to me, I’d paint over all the wood!

  4. Save the wood! I’m afraid I’m with Troy on this one. Paint – especially white paint – just means repainting. Stained wood is far easier to maintain. But then it’s yr house and I’m sure it will look fantastic whatever you do!

  5. I’ll stain the wood in much darker color, like espresso. More contemporary. Like you, I don’t like it too traditional. White paint will be my second choice πŸ˜‰
Anyway, congrats for your new home!

  6. I thought I would like the wood, but after seeing the photos, I think white is a great idea. πŸ™‚ It would open up the house, make it brighter… and less dated?
beautiful house! i love the yard!!
